A wanted Florida man was arrested Saturday after his phone alerted police that he was hiding in the ceiling of a business, authorities said.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said Joshua Garrett, 38, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a disturbance near US 98 North and Duff Road in Lakeland, Florida. When deputies arrived, they were told the man who started the disturbance, later identified as Garrett, had left the business.
After identifying the man as Garrett, deputies learned he was wanted for violating his probation, which he was granted after being convicted of burglary, providing false information to a pawn shop and trafficking in stolen goods.

Officers began searching the area for Garrett and stopped at a business where he worked.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Garrett entered the business but never left.
The police carried out an initial search of the property but were unable to find him.

Still, they thought Garrett might be in the building and saw that a few ceiling tiles were out of place. The officers then heard Garrett's phone ring and began searching above the tiles.
While searching, investigators spotted a hand protruding from under the insulation.
“Luckily, the hand was attached to a body – Garrett’s – and not just a random disembodied hand,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. “That would have taken the situation in a completely different direction.”

Garrett was eventually removed from the ceiling and transported to the Polk County Jail to serve his warrant. He was also charged with rebellion and criminal mischief after causing approximately $1,000 worth of damage to his employer's cap.
