Andrew Scott, Margaret Qualley, Ethan Hawke and Bobby Cannavale will star in Blue Moon, from the director of Boyhood.
In the casting of Blue Moonthe new project of Richard Linklaterno Glen Powell in view, while the actor appeared in the distribution of his last two films, Apollo 10½ (2022) and Hitman (2023). No, this time, Linklater goes back to basics and calls on his favorite actor, Ethan Hawkefor what will be their ninth collaboration.
After the trilogy of Before (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight), The Newton Gang, Waking Life, Tape, Fast Food Nationand above all, ten years later Boyhood, which earned Linklater the Silver Bear at the Berlinale, and the Golden Globes for Best Director, the two companions collaborate on several levels on this feature film project. Robert Kaplowhe is the co-writer of this film in production, who also wrote the novel Orson Welles and me, adapted for the cinema by Linklater, and with Zac Efron, Christian McKay And Claire Danes in 2009.
Together, the three men imagined the story of the last days of Lorenz Hart. He was part of the composer duo Rodgers & Hartat the origin of the song which gives its title to the film, “Blue Moon”. One evening in 1934, he celebrated the success of his former partner, Richard Rodgersincluding the last composition for four hands (but with Oscar Hammerstein II), Oklahoma!has just been presented on Broadway.
To embody this plot alongside Ethan Hawke, Linklater's choice fell on Bobby Cannavale (Blue Jasmine, The Irishman), which reunites Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater almost two decades after the filming of Fast Food Nation.
Rounding out the cast are two of the most popular faces of the moment. The first: that of Margaret Qualleywhich we discovered in The Leftoversbefore finding her in the Drive Away Dolls by Ethan Coen and soon in The Substance, which was a hit on the Croisette. The second, that ofAndrew Scottmade famous by his portrayal of Moriarty in the series Sherlock and his passage into the Fleabag of Phoebe Waller-Bridgeand become an icon of the British LGBT scene since the release of Without ever knowing us Last year. Recently, we also saw him interpret the very famous Detective Ripley in the series of the same name released this year on Netflix.
Sony will oversee the production of Blue Moon and will ensure its distribution, resuming a collaboration begun with Linklater's first feature, Slacker. A partnership that the studio seems happy to start again. According to Deadlinea source working at the studio was quoted as saying:

Over the intervening months, helping them bring it to fruition has been incredibly exciting and now, as it begins production with a fantastic team and Rick at the helm, we're thrilled to announce it and soon be able to release the film accessible to audiences all over the world.”
The filming of Blue Moon will begin this summer in Ireland. For the moment, the film does not have an official release date, and history has proven to us that Richard Linklater was not afraid to take his time…
