Rangers’ January target is ‘made up’ to sign Premier League deal

Rangers’ reported January target Tom Davies has claimed he is “made up” to sign a deal with Premier League Sheffield United after leaving Everton.

The 25-year-old former England youth international signed a three-year contract at Bramall Lane following his departure from Goodison Park in the summer.

Tom Davies had made his way through Everton’s youth ranks but has expressed his enthusiasm to join newly promoted Sheffield United this season.

“I’m ready to be here and I can’t wait to start,” said Tom Davies, arriving at Sheffield United.

“It was time to move from the previous club to Sheffield United and I am very excited about that, I think it is a great project the team has here and I am full of enthusiasm and hunger to move on.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world, so when Sheffield United knocked on the door, I thought this was the place to be, playing against the best teams and the best players.

“I played here (Bramall Lane) twice during Covid, and I think that helped Everton, but I’m really looking forward to taking the pitch in front of the whole crowd and showing the fans who I am.”

Rangers-linked Tom Davies heads to Sheffield United

While there has been no mention of Rangers’ interest in Tom Davies this summer, the midfielder was one of the names mentioned as a target for Ibrox in January.

Reports originating from talkSPORT he had claimed that Rangers had a legitimate interest in making a move for the out-of-contract Everton midfielder.

But as the transfer window progressed, incoming Rangers Michael Beale addressed the reports, stating that while Tom Davies is a good player, he was not someone being hunted by the Gers.

This comes after the Ibrox coach had fueled the rumors about a transfer by praising the midfielder in the previous days.

Rangers then signed Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell and Standard Liege star Nicolas Raskin, with both emerging as key figures in Beale’s new Ibrox side.

But when Tom Davies officially moves to Sheffield United, those links to Rangers are finally ended as both the Ibrox and Merseysider sides move on.
