Impact Day: Periods of rain, turning breezy

SOMETIMES DON’T REALLY WANT TO GO OUT IN THE RAIN AND CAN’T BLAME THEM TOO MUCH, RIGHT? NO, IT’S KIND OF AN UGLY DAY OUT THERE. WE SEE THE RAIN CONTINUING OFF AND ON AS WE GO THROUGH YOUR SATURDAY. YOU CAN SEE A NUMBER OF THOSE RAINDROPS COMING DOWN IN FRONT OF OUR ACTION CAM HERE AT WTAE. IT’S HIGH ABOVE THE STATION HERE IN WILKINSBURG. SKIES ARE GOING TO STAY OVERCAST AND SHOWERS AGAIN, JUST PRETTY MUCH ALL DAY LONG. MOSTLY LIGHT RAIN FOR THE MAJORITY OF US. BUT AS WE LOOK DOWN TOWARDS WEST VIRGINIA, ALSO GARRETT COUNTY, MARYLAND, RAIN IS A LITTLE BIT HEAVIER. SOME OF THE ACTION ALSO WORKING THROUGH INDIANA COUNTY, EVEN JUST NORTH OF JOHNSTOWN. THEY WERE JUST IN THE THICK OF THAT. OVER THE PAST 15 TO 20 MINUTES OR SO. AND THERE’S STILL MORE RAIN TO COME. IT LOOKS LIKE THE MAJORITY OF THE HEAVY RAIN IS GOING TO BE COMING OUT OF WEST VIRGINIA, SLIDING THROUGH THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS. THAT’S WHERE WE DO EXPECT SOME OF THOSE HIGHER RAINFALL TOTALS AS WE GO THROUGH THE COURSE OF THE DAY. GENERALLY SPEAKING, ANYWHERE FROM A HALF INCH UP TO AN INCH OF RAIN, SOME OF THOSE HIGHER TOTALS, AGAIN, AS I MENTIONED, LIKELY OVER INTO THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS, WE’LL SEE MORE FREQUENT, MODERATE TO EVEN HEAVIER DOWNPOURS COMING IN DURING THE SECOND PART OF THE DAY. HERE COMES THE COLD FRONT. YOU CAN PICK OUT THAT LINE OF SHOWERS SETTING UP ACROSS THE AREA AS WE APPROACH DINNERTIME. WITH THAT, WE’LL ALSO SEE THE WIND PICK UP. IT’S GOING TO CHANGE DIRECTION SHARPLY, ALLOWING SOME CHILLY AIR TO BLOW IN. THAT’S WHERE THINGS CHANGE AS WE ENTER YOUR SUNDAY. IT IS ALSO AN IMPACT DAY, BUT FOR A WHOLE DIFFERENT REASON. WE’LL SEE SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS ALSO SOME STRONGER WINDS THAT WILL INTENSIFY SOME OF THOSE LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS, ESPECIALLY THOSE TYPICAL CORRIDORS GETTING UP NORTH OF I 80. ALSO EVEN INTO THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS WHERE YOU COULD SEE SOME VERY LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS FOR MOST OF US, WE’RE GOING TO STAY UNDER AN INCH OF SNOW, MORE THAN LIKELY A HALF INCH OR LESS. ACROSS ALLEGHENY COUNTY AND POINTS TOWARDS THE SOUTH WILL MAINLY STICK INTO SOME GRASSY SURFACES, MAYBE EVEN YOUR FLOWER BEDS AS WELL. OF COURSE, THE GROUND IS SO WARM, BUT WHERE YOU SEE SOME OF THOSE MORE CONSISTENT SNOW SHOWERS, WE LOOK UP TOWARDS THE NORTH. ALSO TO THE RIDGES OFF TOWARDS THE EAST. THAT’S WHERE THOSE ACCUMULATIONS COULD JUMP UP JUST A LITTLE BIT. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES OUT FOR THOSE VERY SAME AREAS. WE GET AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT EXTEND THROUGH 2:00 IN THE MORNING ON MONDAY. SO JUST A HEADS UP FOR TRAVEL AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY ON SUNDAY. SO TODAY RAIN AT TIMES WILL BE HEAVIER INTO THE AFTERNOON IN SPOTS. BREEZY, HIGH TEMPERATURE TODAY JUST 56 DEGREES. TONIGHT WE’RE GOING TO CRASH CLOSE TO FREEZING. IT’S AFTER MIDNIGHT THAT WE COULD INTRODUCE A FEW SNOW SHOWERS. SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW. NOT NEARLY AS WARM, JUST 37 FOR A HIGH. AGAIN, DON’T FORGET WE ARE SPRING FORWARD TONIGHT. WE WILL BE BACK INTO THOSE SPRING LIKE TEMPERATURES NEXT WEEK. 60S TO EVEN NEAR 70. LOOK THROUGH THURSDAY. TONS OF DRY TIME. SO I’LL LET MOTHER NATURE TAKE CARE OF THE CAR WASH TODAY. YOU’LL GET YOUR MONEY’S WORTH NEXT WEEK. A FEW MORE SHOWERS POSSIBLE ON

Impact Day: Periods of rain, turning breezy

The rain has already settled in this morning and will stick with us throughout the day. Pockets of heavier rain are possible this afternoon before a cold front swipes through the area. Rainfall amounts will be between half an inch and one inch by this evening. A chilly airmass quickly blows in this evening. Any leftover moisture will fall as a few snow showers after midnight. A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for areas along and north of 422 plus the ridges to the east. These areas could pick light accumulations – a few inches – on Sunday. Closer to Pittsburgh, up to half an inch mainly on the grass. It won’t just be cold but wind too. Gusts could crank up to 40 mph, stronger in hillier spots. Tomorrow will certainly be a reality check. Thank goodness it will be brief.TODAY: Impact Day – rain at times, breezy with gusts up to 30 mph.
