Manchester United finally managed to bounce back with Saturday’s late win at Brentford and now there seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Manchester United managed to avoid an unwanted piece of history over the weekend.
Their home game against Brentford on Saturday could have seen the Red Devils lose three consecutive games at Old Trafford for the first time since 1979. It looked like it was heading in that direction with the Bees leading until injury time.
However, Scott McTominay stepped up to turn the match in favor of Erik ten Hag’s men. The Red Devils now enter the international break on a high. That said, take a look at all the notable news that has emerged around Old Trafford over the last 24 hours:
Wayne Rooney, in line for England return
Man United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney is closing in on his return to England after leaving MLS side DC United. The former forward left the club for the second time after failing to make the postseason playoffs.
He will reportedly take over at Championship side Birmingham City and replace John Eustace. Rooney will be reunited with a number of former colleagues at St Andrews.
It has been claimed that he will be bringing Ashley Cole and John O’Shea to Second City as part of his backroom team. Rooney’s last role in English football was at Derby County, which ended with the Rams’ relegation to League One.

Onana ‘loses confidence’
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has claimed that the Red Devils are already starting to lose confidence in André Onana. The Cameroonian has made a series of mistakes since his arrival at Old Trafford from Inter Milan; the last of them in the last victory against Brentford.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, he said: “I’m trying to talk to him about what it’s like to be at Manchester United and why. [mistakes] What you have done, you have to put it in a box and put it aside. If you make a mistake in the game, it may be a mistake that we can see, or it may be a mistake that we don’t see.
“But you wait to think about it and analyze it after the game or at night or whatever. You have to be there for the next moment. If not, you will make the following error. And now he’s bothering the whole team. “Now they won’t trust him even more and, my God, it’s not good.”

Ten Hag to consider new role at McTominay
One man who had a perfect afternoon against Brentford was midfielder McTominay. Ten Hag has admitted that he could be tempted to deploy him in a more attacking role after his game-winning cameo.
Speaking after the win against Brentford, he said: “Yes, of course. That’s why he’s here. He’s one of our midfielders and yes, he can make a difference in the pits, you see.”
