Fire officials say two people are dead following a fire in Washington County. The fire broke out around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning along East Katherine Avenue in the city of Washington. The fire chief tells Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that the man and woman who died were both on the second floor of the home. The Washington County coroner identified the man who died as 39-year-old Kenneth Guy III. The name of the woman who died remains unclear.“(They were) very good people. They pretty much kept to themselves,” said Fred Sapp, who lives in the home next door. “They were respectful. It’s really upsetting to know that.”The chief said there were hoarding conditions in the home.“We did have some hoarding conditions which made it a little difficult to make it to the second floor,” said Chris Richer, the city of Washington fire chief. “I mean, hoarding conditions are more fuel for the fire, first of all. But it makes it very difficult to move in and maneuver hose and personnel and get to people. So it makes it twice as dangerous for victims and firefighters especially.” Sadie Presto, who also lives next to the home, told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 firefighters made her evacuate her home.“As I’m in the shower, I hear banging at the door. I open my ring doorbell, and the police are telling me to evacuate,” Presto said.Fire officials do not believe the cause of the fire is suspicious, but it remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
