Or his Rambo First Blood, rather? Aaron Pierre plays an ex-Marine who confronts a local police chief (Don Johnson) upon discovering the corruption that reigns in his small town.
“He didn't start this fight, but he's going to finish it.”
When Terry Richmond, a former U.S. Marine (Aaron Pierre de old), goes to Shelby Springs to pay bail to free his cousin, he finds himself facing the corrupt police of this small American town, personified by Chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson, yes: the Sonny of Two cops in Miami). But he doesn't intend to let himself be impressed…
If this pitch reminds you of the first one Rambo, with Sylvester Stallone going up against Brian Dennehy's sheriff because he doesn't want vagrants in his quiet little town, that's normal: it's exactly the vibe which emerges from the trailer of Rebel Ridgeposted this week by Netflix. We also find a little of the concept of Jack Reacherwith this war hero not seeking to fight, but who has acquired certain abilities during his training and who is able to defend himself when he finds himself faced with injustice.
That escalated quickly
“People are getting hurt, so I thought about leaving at first… then I thought, 'Nah.'”
Seeing the violence erupting more and more strongly around him, Terry does not lose heart, understanding that he will have to fight himself to uphold justice. He will be able to count on the help of the clerk Summer McBride (AnnaSophia Robb, star of The Carrie Diaries), facing the judge played by James Cromwell (LA Confidential) or the violent officer played by Emory Cohen (Brooklyn).
Jeremy Saulnier can be counted on to film all this with a certain tension: the director has already demonstrated his talents for making the public uncomfortable in the face of the violent reactions of an isolated community, whether in his excellent Green Roomor in No man or God (already for Netflix).
Rebel Ridge is expected on September 6 on the platform.
