Jennifer Garner took some time in the gym to reprise her role as Elektra in the new “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie.
On Monday, Garner took to Instagram to explain that she was in shape 20 years ago while filming “Elektra,” but that level of fitness wasn't going to cut it for a Marvel movie.
In the video, Garner, 52, shows herself performing tough exercises that help her get in shape for her action-packed cameo. The actress recalls the moment Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy approached her with the idea of reprising her role for the third “Deadpool” movie.

“We were on the set of ‘The Adam Project,’ and they were giving each other that look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes — there’s a crazy artistic destiny between these two,” Garner captioned her post.
“Aside from trying to convince my kids' preschool friends that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn't picked up Elektra's sass since 2004; I was in shape, but not in Marvel shape,” she continued.
“I was in shape, but not in shape for Marvel.”
Garner explained that she incorporated swimming, weightlifting, boxing, running, trampolining and balance exercises to prepare for Elektra's return.

“I didn’t know Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did. They are gifted in so many ways, but seeing and uplifting the people around them is at the top of the list,” Garner continued. “Shauna and I were in heaven on set with them, along with my old friend @thehughjackman, @dafnekeen, @channingtatum, @realwesleysnipes. Filming the fight was so much fun, being there together – truly like a dream.”
The actress concluded: “I'm proud of my friends and grateful to be up there with them. A simple thank you isn't enough, guys, but it's a good substitute until I find what will.”
Garner first starred as Elektra in the 2003 film “Daredevil,” alongside her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. In 2005, she had her own film.
