Another world leader joined them in sending condolences to the family of Pennsylvania volunteer firefighter Corey Comperartore, who was killed while shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire at former President Donald Trump's rally on Saturday.
“Corey Comperatore had just turned 50, he was a former fire chief, an Italian-American of Calabrian origin. He died a hero, acting as a shield for his wife and daughter, standing between them and the bullets fired by the assailant who shot at Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania,” wrote Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, in a message on X.
Comperatore, 50, was a former Buffalo Township volunteer fire chief, according to the department. He was shot when Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire on Trump from a sniper perch about 130 yards away during the campaign event.
Secret Service agents shot and killed Crooks moments after his first shot, but not before he killed Comperatore and wounded two other bystanders, authorities said.

“Corey sacrificed his life to save those of his loved ones, instinctively, without thinking for a moment. An act of extreme love and selflessness that can only be honored[sic]“To all of his family, I extend my deepest condolences. Rest in peace, Corey,” Meloni continued.
On Sunday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called Trump, who was shot in the ear in the assassination attempt, to offer his support for the lives lost, the Associated Press reported.

Starmer condemned the violence, expressed his condolences to the victims and their families and wished a speedy recovery to the former president and the two injured men.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who also spoke with Trump on Sunday, was another world leader to condemn the violence and offer his condolences to the Comperatore family.

“The Prime Minister condemned yesterday's horrific assassination attempt and reiterated that there is no place for political violence. The Prime Minister wished the former president well and offered his condolences to the victims of the shooting and the family of Corey Comperatore,” Trudeau's office said in a statement.

The FBI announced Sunday that it was investigating the attempted assassination of Trump as a potential act of terrorism.
