Platform – Cinema

Rating – two and a half

Director R Balki, who has made memorable films like Chini Come, Paa and Padman, has this time presented a story of making the impossible possible through a sports drama. Inspired by the story of an Olympic gold medal winning Hungarian shooter, this inspiring film has a lot to offer, but nothing you haven’t seen or heard before. The story of the film and its treatment is quite predictable. So it has become an average movie.

The story of an underdog becoming a winner

The film revolves around Anina (Saiyami Kher), an aspiring cricketer. The first shot of the film proves that he is an aspiring cricketer. Her dream is to get a place in the Indian cricket team and she soon finds a place in the playing 16 players of the Indian team that will go to England. Aina has a beautiful family and also a boyfriend (Angad Bedi). A picture perfect life, but lost her arm in an accident. Anina who loves life so much starts hating her life because she doesn’t have cricket. Padam Singh Sodhi aka Paddy (Abhishek Bachchan), an alcoholic and one-Test cricketer enters his life. Arrogant and insensitive by nature, Paddy not only encourages Anina to play sports and trains her as a bowler, but also instills in Anina the spirit of living. How does this all happen? This story follows.

Pros and cons of the film

It is a sports based movie. The journey of a female player has been shown in cricket, which is generally considered a men’s field. Kudos to the entire team of the film for that, but watching the film feels like nothing that has not been seen before. This movie also reminds me of Iqbal, Parinde and Sala Khadu. Here is a glimpse of movies with many inspiring stories that make the impossible possible. There is a dialogue in the movie that life is not a game of logic but a game of magic, but the movie failed to bring that magic to the screen, so you don’t wonder if such an action of a player is like this. Or bowling is valid in cricket. This film has been briefly talked about, but it did not make it. The first half of the film has turned out well. In the second half the story has become very predictable. The climax is also not surprising, rather it seems unnecessary. The dialogues of the film are certainly well done. Cinematography remains average. Talking about the music, none of the songs are memorable apart from Ghoomar.

Excellent performance by Abhishek Bachchan

Talking about the acting, Abhishek Bachchan has given an amazing performance. He has lived his character closely. Saiyami Kher has also worked hard on her character, but she needed to polish her dialogue delivery a bit more. Even in emotional scenes, he should work on himself a bit more. Shabana Azmi has left a mark in her character this time too. Saiyami’s family chemistry has also improved. Angad Bedi and other actors have also done justice to their roles. Watching Amitabh Bachchan and cricket legend Bishan Singh Bedi on screen is a treat.
