Frank Lampard hailed Erik ten Hag’s disciplined approach as a major factor behind Manchester United’s rise under the Dutchman this season.

Lampard has had a torrid time at Chelsea since returning to the club and will soon hand over to a new manager, with Mauricio Pochettino expected to be appointed, to try and make an improvement next season.

Lampard was asked if Chelsea’s next boss could take inspiration from the change Ten Hag has engineered at Old Trafford and while he was reluctant to compare clubs, he noted that Ten Hag’s approach to discipline and standards is vital. .

The United manager has taken action against Alejandro Garnacho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford at times this season and Lampard believes the approach has helped raise standards at the club.

“I think it’s very difficult to compare, very difficult, it’s not up to me to analyze where Manchester United are and where they have been,” he said.
