The world of magic is threatened.
On the occasion of its broadcast this evening on TF1 from 9:10 p.m., a look back at a crucial change made at the end of the feature film.
Warning, spoilers!
In 2016, as the entire team was in the final stages of promoting Fantastic Beasts, it was revealed that the story had been changed quite a bit along the way by JK Rowling And David Yates, producer David Heyman explaining for example at a New York press conference that an important ending scene was cut in the editing. In the film version, each story is entitled to “her” end: Belief (Ezra Miller) is killed in the subway, Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) is stopped, the memory of Jacob (Dan Fogler) is erased, but he later seems to recognize Queenie (Alison Sudol) while he opened his bakery. Finally, Tina (Katherine Waterston) and Norbert (Eddie Redmayne) promise to meet again on a quay, the English wizard preparing to return to the United Kingdom on board a cruise ship.
Fantastic Beasts stars talk Harry Potter, Woody Allen, Buster Keaton…
“We had shot another ending sequence, which we cut, where Croyance also took a boat, reveals Heyman. We didn't keep it because we didn't want the audience to think, 'There you go. Obviously he'll come back in the sequel.' So he was getting on a ship. Maybe the same one as Norbert? Maybe not. And he was leaving New York.”

A major change, therefore, since in the final version, nothing suggests that Croyance survived the attack of the sorcerers. Whereas by showing him on board a ship, the spectators would have understood that only his “obscurus” has been destroyed. The producer also insists that the character will return in the saga.
“I don't think Norbert will be at the heart of all the sequels. He will be part of them, just like Tina, Queenie and Jacob and they will be very important in number 2but the main characters will be Dumbledore, Credence and Grindelwald instead.”
This confirms what was teased just before the film's release: The relationship between the Hogwarts headmaster and his former childhood friend who has become dangerous will be at the heart of the saga.. Except that until now, no one had mentioned the return of Croyance.
