The National Weather Service confirms three tornadoes touched down in Western Pennsylvania during Wednesday’s storms.An EF2 tornado touched down and caused damage south of Route 22 from the south of Delmont to the southwest of Shieldsburg and New Alexandria, weather officials confirmed.The tornado caused large trees to snap and become uprooted with winds reaching 115 mph. Along Jobes Road between Beaver Run and Boggs Hollow roads, power poles were broken.Officials with the National Weather Service survey team said it is difficult to access the area due to road closures and debris. The survey team also said an EF1 tornado began near Old Steubenville Pike Road and Route 22, at the border of Washington and Allegheny counties. With a peak wind speed of 90 mph, the tornado snapped trees as it moved through North Fayette Township and Oakdale.”Damage was sporadic and primarily to trees, with several trees sheared off near the top, and a few large trees snapped lower on the trunks,” the NWS report said. “More concentrated damage was noted on Seabright Rd, Kelso Rd, and Whittengale Rd. In these areas, several large hardwood and softwood trees were snapped midway up their bases. Two large trees were also uprooted on Whittengale Road.”The National Weather Service confirmed a third tornado, but has not released further information. A map released by the weather service shows the tornado passing through both Allegheny and Westmoreland County.This story is developing.
