Lionsgate studio plans to hire Yen to direct its Chapter 4 spinoff film.
After making a thunderous debut against John Wick in the Chapter 4 in 2023, it was announced that Caine, the blind killer played by Donnie Yenwould have its own spin-off film, showing the character “after he has been released from his obligations to the High Table.”
The film is written by Robert Askinsbut for months the project has been on standby. Certainly the Lionsgate studio is waiting to see how the spin-off will perform Ballerina at the box office. And then he will appoint a director, who could well be Donnie Yen himself.
In an interview with Collider, he confirms:
“I think the fans, as well as the studio, want it to happen, and we'll see… But yes, we're talking, and we're talking intimately. We'll see what happens. But at the same time, I have a responsibility and a pressure, I don't want to ruin the franchise I'm trying to do my best to bring something new to the franchise itself.”
The Chinese martial arts film star has previously directed films such as Legend of the Wolf (1997), Ballistic Kiss (1998), Shanghai Affairs (1998) or even The Prosecutor (2024).
