Declan Rice couldn’t hide true feelings after question about losing Arsenal’s transfer record

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice was in fine form after being asked his opinion on Moises Caicedo’s record transfer to Chelsea after Monday’s win over Crystal Palace.

Declan Rice joked that he couldn’t believe his successful move to Arsenal was overshadowed just days later by the British record move of Moises Caicedo to Chelsea.

The Gunners paid a record £105m fee for Rice earlier this summer as Mikel Arteta’s side tried to go further than last year, where they finished runners-up in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s deal for Rice fell just short of the British record held at the time by Enzo Fernández and made him the most expensive signing of the summer transfer window, but only by a matter of days.

Chelsea’s £115 million deal for Caicedo eclipsed Rice’s record fee; something Sky Sports host David Jones posed to the England star after Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Monday night.

And Rice was a good asset when she quipped, “I’ve only had it on my wall for two weeks, I’ve had to take it down now!”

He went on to explain how much he already enjoyed life as a gunner, adding: “You know what? Before tonight’s game I was on my way. [in] and I thought, ‘Just go out and have it tonight. Just go out there and try to put on a show.’

“Even in the warm-up, I felt energized. I wanted to go out there and perform; I was really ready for it, to be honest with you. Just two games later, there’s obviously a lot of talk about price.” and me playing for Arsenal, I want to keep proving people wrong, show that I can play at the top and keep giving the best performances. I will keep my feet on the ground, I will continue to listen to everyone around me and I will continue to push.”
