The movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Speaking of Deadpool, he is an 18+ hero who is full of dirty jokes, violent scenes, and drug themes. There may be some concern that his crazy charm will be taken away by joining the Disney umbrella, which demands good behavior.
Director Shawn Levy previously revealed that he was told early on not to include jokes about drug use, which they found amusing and made into a joke in the film.
Apart from the drug-related stuff, was there anything else that Disney or Marvel Studios said was no good? “No, the only thing they said was no good was really anything to do with drug use. It was Ryan's genius idea to turn even that one rule into a joke,” director Levy said in an interview in Korea.
“That's really all Kevin Feige told me. In the first trailer, I included the line, 'Feige said that cocaine is a no-no.'” The fun of making a Deadpool movie is that 'nothing is guaranteed safe, no one is guaranteed safe (= everything can be a target). Deadpool is able to enjoy masochism precisely because he is well aware that he is in a movie.'
Apparently the cocaine joke in the trailer was Ryan Reynolds' idea. “Kevin Feige really liked it,” so everyone was in on it.
“From our first meeting, both Marvel and Disney told us that in order to make this a successful Deadpool movie and the first R-rated movie in the MCU, we had to let us do what we wanted. And we were able to do just that.”
The film “Deadpool & Wolverine”, in which the damn irresponsible hero Deadpool goes on a rampage even at Disney, will be released worldwide on July 24, 2024.
