The highest grossing “R-rated” film in cinema history.
Marvel's savior has lived up to expectations. After a year of worrying flops, the studio is back to success this summer. And not just a little!
Deadpool & Wolverine has just passed a symbolic milestone at the box office: by passing 1.1 billion dollars in revenue worldwide, Shawn Levy's blockbuster doubles the Joker of Todd Phillips and became the highest-grossing R-rated film (the maximum classification in the USA, which indicates that the film is not recommended for children under 17) in history. In 2019, Joker had closed at $1.078 billion.
Marvel is doing better than DC and Kevin Feigethe studio boss, is delighted by posting this enthusiastic little message on social media: “MThank you for making Marvel Studios' first ever R-rated film the #1 movie of all time. “.

Let us remember that Deadpool & Wolverine opened to $211 million, ranking sixth among the biggest opening weekends of all time in the United States. Since then, the film has earned $600 million in North America and nearly as much internationally. It is the second-highest grossing film of 2024 after Inside Out 2 and its $1.558 billion in revenue. Another number 1 that Marvel could well go for by the end of the summer…
