While The Acolyte has just started on Disney+, the man who supervises films and series Star Wars for Lucasfilm since last winter was interviewed at length within the podcast Happy Sad Confused. Dave Filoni was notably asked about the possibility of soon seeing an R-Rated film derived from the work of George Lucas.
“Of course, he responds straight away. Well, I don't know if it will happen, but I think it's interesting. The limit of everything we do is that it is well designed. I think when you look Andorfor example, what is striking is not so much that it is different, but it is the fact that Tony (Gilroy) and his teams have done a phenomenal job. The saga initiated by George Lucas in 1977 currently includes nine main films and two live action derivatives. The first five are intended for all audiences (PG in the United States) and from Revenge of the Sith (2005), they were upgraded to PG-13 because they contained more violence (Star Wars 7 has 9, Rogue One And Solo: A Star Wars Story are all not recommended for under 13s unaccompanied by an adult). In France, they are all public.
“Star Warsit encompasses lots of different styles, continues Filoni. Creating a particular story should lead us, that’s the most important thing. Fans should always feel safe. Otherwise, anyone could show up thinking they're the new George Lucas. I learned things from him, obviously, but I'm not George and I don't view films the way he does. He's a unique talent, there's only one per generation like him.
Let's say I like wolves and can incorporate them into Star Wars. It will be a little different from what we've seen before, but it will be ok. On the other hand, there are great principles to respect, questions of choice, deep questions about being a good person, overcoming your fears, timeless reflections… Whatever the style, they are at the heart of Star Wars.”

Taking as an example the example of The Hidden Fortress by Akira Kurosawa, a filmmaker who profoundly influenced George Lucas in designing his saga, Filoni admits to perceiving this work differently today than when he was ten years old:
“I didn't understand it the same way when I was ten. You grow up and it becomes a whole new experience.”
After offering more adult series to fans of Star Wars, will Dave Filoni and his teams soon be ready to imagine an R-Rated blockbuster? If this idea comes to fruition, it will not be visible immediately: for the moment, priority is given to The Mandalorian & Groguwhich will continue the story of the show on the big screen, and will therefore be aimed at all audiences, and Daisy Ridley must also return in the role of Rey at the heart of a new film Star Warswhich should be in line with the last trilogy.
