A trending breakfast hack is dividing viewers on TikTok, as some call it “genius” and others call it “a crime.” So what is it ?
Content creators and home cooks on the platform are making what are called “scrambled pancakes.”
Instead of pouring pancake mix into a pan or onto the griddle and waiting for the mixture to cook and bubble before flipping it, people scramble the batter in the pan like eggs until they leftover pieces of pancakes of different sizes.

TikTok creator @archivedchef has garnered over 13.7 million views of her scrambled crepe video.
The comments section is filled with users calling the hack “blasphemous.”
“I would never disrespect pancakes like that,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Who hurt you?” » commented another social media account.

The video even caught the attention of Eggo, the American frozen waffle brand, who wrote on TikTok: “Scrambled pancakes are CRAZY. »
Not all social media users found the hack problematic. Some seem interested in trying it.
“Not really a bad idea, I'm intrigued,” commented one TikTok user.
“Honestly this is pretty awesome…it's kind of like mini pancakes,” wrote another.

“This seems like a good idea for babies starting solids because you don't have to cut them into small pieces,” another user wrote.
The creator, @archivedchef, is amazed by the reactions of users on social networks.
“I thought this would be a fun idea for a video because of all the reactions it might get, some positive, some not so much,” the user, from Southern Pines, North Carolina, told Fox News Digital.

“The idea of scrambling pancakes was so original that I knew it would be fun to try and entertain my followers.”
It turns out that the idea of a scrambled pancake is not new and has been around since the mid-19th century in Austria.
Kaiserschmarrn, or “imperial mess”, is a traditional dessert originating from Austria and found throughout Germany.
Many TikTok users compared the breakfast trick to the European dish.
“It's called Kaiserschmarrn in Germany. It's delicious,” one user commented. “[It’s] often served with powdered sugar on top and fresh, warm homemade applesauce on the side. So good!”

According to legend, this Austrian delicacy was created by a farmer who was stunned when Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife showed up at his house and wanted something to eat.
The farmer didn't know what to serve to the emperor. So he tore up a pancake and topped it with sugar and marmalade, the Washington Post reported.
“Archived Chef” came across the German recipe on Pinterest and thought it would be fun to try European cuisine but with the American twist of pancake batter.
“The video leaned more towards the tongue-in-cheek side, mainly for entertainment, but I noticed that there were a good number of people who seemed quite interested in the idea, especially the younger ones,” she said.
“I wanted to play with the concept and add a humorous twist to it. It was a fun way to engage my audience and spark debate about unconventional cooking techniques.”

A TikTok mom named Bek Marsden, who posts under the handle @bekmarsden, shared her take on the trendy treat, calling it “a cross between funnel cakes and pancakes,” she told Fox News Digital.
Marsden, a Utah resident, said she had no idea the vision would be so controversial, but that won't stop her from trying the trend again.
“I didn’t think mixing all my pancake mixes would cause such a stir, but I will say it won’t be the last time I do it! It gives a unique twist and a fun texture to [a] “A regular pancake mix,” Marsden said.
Many of those who reacted to his video, which has garnered more than 3.2 million views, said they have been enjoying scrambled pancakes for years, whether intentionally or not.

“It’s crazy how trendy it is. I’ve been doing this for years because I don’t know how to cook. [and] “My patience is still running out,” wrote one TikTok account.
“We did this by accident once when my two-year-old tried to flip pancakes when I wasn’t looking,” one social media user commented.

While the idea of scrambled pancakes caused a stir online, the topic, for many, led to a creative way of testing new recipes and exploring foreign dishes.
