After Despicable Me 4, Minions 3 is coming in 2027

Illumination is preparing the sequel to its franchise. Not (yet) with Despicable Me 5, but with the return of its all-yellow spin-off.

The saga Despicable Me is not about to stop. While Despicable Me 4 is on track to be one of the summer hits, Universal Pictures announced today that it has already planned the sequel. Not Despicable Me 5 – who will certainly wait a few more years – but Minions 3 already has a release date set for June 30, 2027, five years later Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru (2022).

Minions 3 will be written by Brian Lynch (writer of the first spin-off film) and directed by Pierre Coffinwho directed the first three films Despicable Me.

As per usual, Chris Meledandrifounder and CEO of Illumination, will serve as producer.

It should be noted that Universal takes great care to maintain its lucrative franchise: when Despicable Me 4 will have finished its theatrical run, the saga will have grossed more than $5 billion at the global box office. And it is important to note that Minions are even more lucrative than Gru solo: 2 billion in 2 films for the little yellow creatures, against 3 billion in 4 films for their villainous leader!
