The franchise star took Thanksgiving to make a disturbing statement on social media.
Where is going Fast and Furious ? After the failure of the last part, Fast Xthe saga seems to be out of GPS. Last May, director Louis Leterrier confirmed that the next film, Fast X part 2would be released in 2026 and filmed in early 2025. Vin Diesel had teased his return to training for this final chapter.
But last August, Tyrese Gibson, one of the pillars of the franchise, declared to Collider that he still hadn't seen the script. Then, at the beginning of November, Jordana Brewster, who plays Mia, Dominic Toretto's sister, admitted to having no idea of the date of filming.
THURSDAY, Vin Diesel took the floor again to give news of this Fast X part 2 supposed to be the big conclusion to the story started in 2001. But his message, posted on Thanksgiving Day, doesn't really make things clear. On the contrary, he sows confusion about what is happening behind the scenes:
“On the one hand I have Universal telling me that we need FastX2 in March 2026! On the other hand I have Comcast saying we need two films for the Finale! And then I have a Fast Five writer send me this image and tell me we need DOM and HOBBS to resolve their differences.
I just want to get back to real car racing, with stunts without special effects… and a reunion of this beautiful brotherhood. Happy Thanksgiving…“
How to interpret Vin Diesel's message? The actor hardly seems enchanted by the idea of making two additional films, as Comcast, the large telecommunications group that owns Universal, the historic studio of Fast and Furious. He wants to return to the essence of the saga, with good big car scenes and less CGI.
The other important point of his post is the message addressed to Dwayne Johnson. Without naming him, Vin Diesel confirms that the time has come for reconciliation between the two men and their respective characters. The Rock has had a string of flops lately (Jungle Cruise, Black Adam, Red One…), but he remains a sure value in Hollywood and an asset for the motorized franchise.
In June 2023, Dwayne Johnson had already buried the hatchet, after his cameo in Fast Xexplaining on social networks that he had spoken with Vin Diesel to set things straight. Except that he announced that his return would first be via a solo film by Hobbs, paving the way for Fast X part 2. Hobbs was to face Reyes (Jason Momoa) in this new spin-off. But since then we have had no news of the project, which has obviously been put on the back burner.
