No Frank Sinatra. No Jesus either. While Martin Scorsese was supposed to film a biopic and a Bible project, after Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), the filmmaker takes everyone by surprise and announces that he is working on a completely different project, much more personal.
Waiting to be able to film The life of Jesus and the life of Sinatrathe director has two other ideas in mind: adapt Homethe book by Marilynne Robinson (2008) and making a film about the lives of her own parents:
“I am still working on The Life of Jesus. So there is a very strong possibility that I will make a film version of Home before… But the schedule is not easy to put in place. There is also the possibility of looking back on my past. I want to be interested in the stories of my father and my mother, the way they grew up. Stories of immigrants, those they experienced, linked to my trip to Sicily” tells AP the director born in New York, but whose parents were children of Sicilian immigrants. Teresa and Francesco Scorsese (his grandparents) arrived in New York at the beginning of the 20th century, coming from Polizzi Generosa, a small town near Palermo.
Martin Scorsese continues: “Right now I'm in a long stretch without filming anything, after Killers of the Flower Moon. Even though I don't like getting up early, I wish I could shoot a film now. Time is flying and I'll be 82 years. I have to get started!”
The filmmaker therefore has 4 projects in his sights. Which will be next? Which has priority? “At my age, I especially ask myself: is it worth making this film, this late in my life? Can I still do it? Is it worth the time? Because now the most precious thing, besides the people I love, my family, is time. That's all that matters to me….”
Martin Scorsese will certainly achieve until his death. He recently said “not planning to retire“.
