A West Virginia mother is under arrest after her 3-year-old child was hit by a car in Jefferson Hills on Saturday. Officers with the Jefferson Hills Police Department were called to an Econo Lodge on Route 51 for a child who had been hit by a vehicle.According to investigators, Shawnae Galberth, the child’s mother, allegedly left the 3-year-old and another toddler in a hotel room unattended. She and her other child went to a nearby convenience store. Investigators say both children left the room and walked along State Route 51 when the 3-year-old was hit by the vehicle.Vincenzo Yocolano, the owner of Faze Up, which is right next to Eco Lodge, said he is not surprised.”If you sat here and watched, you would see people in and out constantly, little kids running around the parking lot. It’s really not a safe place for children,” he said.Police said the child was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. Police told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that they are hopeful the child will recover. Galberth was walking back to the motel and identified herself as the child’s mother. According to court documents, all three children were taken to the hospital, and the custody of the children was turned over to CYF. Galberth was arrested and faces two charges of endangering the welfare of children.Officials say the person who was driving the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Vincenzo Yocolano, the owner of Faze Up, which is right next to Eco Lodge, said he is not surprised.

“If you sat here and watched, you would see people in and out constantly, little kids running around the parking lot. It’s really not a safe place for children,” he said.

Police said the child was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. Police told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that they are hopeful the child will recover.

Galberth was walking back to the motel and identified herself as the child’s mother.

According to court documents, all three children were taken to the hospital, and the custody of the children was turned over to CYF.
